We received a call for help for an 18-year-old senior at a local South Jersey high school. This young man had lost his mother a month prior and his father had recently been placed in a nursing home. Given his age and situation, his name shall remain confidential.
While he was living an apartment that his dad was able to set him up for him, which was being paid for by his father social security benefits, this young man was in crisis. He needed a lot of help. He didn’t have a driver’s license yet and was forced to drive his back to/from school and to/from work which was 12 miles away. His work hours were from 9 p.m. to 3 a.m. All this while trying to keep up with the demands of his senior year of school. He was in need of clothing, food and various other basic needs.
In just 24 hours, we were able to raise nearly $500 from our giving supporters. Bianca's Kids matched that number and on Monday November 7, 2016, we were able to cut a check to our teen for $1000.00 for overdue bills. That money brought his bills up to date.
As he does not have his driver’s license yet, we offered to pay for driving lessons and to take him to get his license when the time came. We offered him a driver in the interim to take him to far away appointments. His guidance counselor asked us for help in providing him an incentive to finish school and continue to graduate in June. So, Bianca’s Kids gave him a big one. We offered him the incentive that if he stays on track & graduates in June, we will be buying him a car of his own.
We offered our teen free college prep courses, a brand-new wardrobe, help obtaining a new job closer to home and various gift cards to help him along the way.
Between the help and assistance we offered him, along with the help his school district is providing him, we are confident this young man is going to be just fine.
