Grief is all-encompassing. While it is inevitable that we will all experience it at some point in this life, none of us are ever prepared for grief There is no doctor, therapist or clergyman who can prepare you for the pain you will experience when you lose someone you love forever. You must experience it to understand. The famous musician George Michael once said " There are two kids of people in this world. Those who have experienced great loss and those who haven't yet." Truer words have never been spoken.
What many are surprised to find out is that Bianca's Kids was founded on grief. Yes, the immense pain I experienced when my 21-year-old niece Bianca was killed in an auto accident in 2010 was what inspired me to establish Bianca's Kids. Bianca loved and worked with children and had plans to further her career to focus on special needs children. It was at her funeral that I made my promise to her. While she laid in her casket I told Bianca that I would see to it that her dream to help children did not die with her. I'm proud to say that o date, Bianca's foundation has blessed over 20,000 children and families. Essentially, my pain birthed my purpose. And with every wish I granted, the pain in my chest from Bianca's death began to subside.
In 2015, an incredible filmmaker by the name of Jason O'Brien created a documentary film about my story. It highlights the stages of grief and the valuable lesson I wish I learned sooner - that there is SO MUCH healing in helping others. If you or have experience grief and loss, I urge you to watch this 30-min film. I promise it will lighten your heart and provide you hope in your most difficult time.
